1. Student visa Subclass 500

To participate in a full-time, long-term study program in Australia, you must apply for Student Visa Subclass 500. It comes with a validity period of up to 5 years and is inline with your college or university enrolment.

With visa subclass 500, you can

  • Pursue a course of study in an Australian University
  • Bring your family members along with you to Australia
  • Apply in or outside of Australia online

To qualify for Visa Subclass 500, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • It would help if you enrolled in a full-time study program in Australia, registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS).
  • If you are applying outside Australia, then you must provide a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) for each study course along with your visa application
  • hold Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), or fall in one of the exemption categories
  • When applying for a student visa at the age of below 18 years, then you must show adequate welfare arrangements when in Australia
  • You may need to prove your English language skills while submitting your visa application, i.e. test score in an English language test from a DHA-approved test provider. For IELTS, you must obtain a minimum 5.5 score.
  • You and your family members must show adequate health insurance cover for the entire duration of your stay in Australia
  • Make sure you don't hold any of the following visas:
  • Domestic Worker (Temporary) Diplomatic and Consular visa (subclass 426)
  • Temporary Work (International Relations) visa (subclass 403)
  • Transit visa (subclass 771)
  • Diplomatic (Temporary) visa (subclass 995)
  • Have clear intentions to stay in Australia temporarily
  • Meet Australian health and character requirements
  • Sign the values statement of Australia
  • Don't have any debts to be paid to the Australian Government
  • Not have had any visa applications refused, or visas cancelled

2. Student Guardian visa Subclass 590

This is a temporary visa to help guardians support their children who are student visa holders in Australia. The length of this visa is determined as per the student visa holder's age and duration of stay in Australia.

With this visa subclass 590, you can:

Come to Australia to lend support and care for a student visa holder below 18 years or older due to some exceptional circumstances.

To be eligible for Visa Subclass 590, you must:

  • Be a student's parent, relative or custodian and age 21 years or older
  • Have enough money to support your living expenses as well as the student during the entire stay
  • Be capable of providing accommodation, welfare and related support
  • Have clear intentions to stay in Australiatemporarily
  • Meet Australian health and character requirements
  • Sign the values statement of Australia
  • Don't have any debts to be paid to the Australian Government
  • Not have had any visa applications refused, or visas cancelled

Please note, the processing time for 75% of applications is four months, and for 90% of applications, the processing time is five months.

3. Training visa Subclass 407

This visa allows you to undergo workplace-based occupational training activities to improve your job skills in tertiary studyor any professional development training program held in Australia.

This is also a temporary visa and allows you to stay for up to 2 years in Australia.

While to be eligible for Visa Subclass 407, you must:

  • Have an approved temporary activities sponsor
  • Be nominated by your sponsor to participate in an occupational training program until and unless the sponsor is an Australian Commonwealth Government agency
  • Age 18 years or above when the decision is taken on your visa application
  • Hold a valid temporary substantive visa, except, Subclass 403, 771 or particular Purpose Visa
  • Have a functional level of English Language skills
  • Have clear intentions to stay in Australia temporarily
  • Meet Australian health and character requirements
  • Sign the values statement of Australia
  • Don't have any debts to be paid to the Australian Government
  • Not have had any visa applications refused, or visas cancelled
